About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog!  I am Katie, a 20-something year old living in the Midwest. I just started my senior year of college as a nursing student!  I am active on campus as a member of the honors program and student government association.

I would not be where I am at today, in nursing school or writing this blog (obviously), if it weren’t for being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  My life completely changed February 8, 2008, when I received that diagnosis.

I started this blog in January 2014, my sophomore year of college (seems so long ago!) as my senior thesis for the honors program.  I wanted to share my story to help people better understand type 1 diabetes and what living with it is like and to possibly help others who are also thriving with diabetes.  When I started my blog, I never realized the impact that it would have on me.  Following and reading other blogs written by people with diabetes has made me feel less alone!

I am so excited to finally be a senior; the end of nursing school is almost in sight!  Though, I must admit the prospects of actually being out of school, taking the NCLEX, finding a job as a nurse, and entering the “real world” as they say is somewhat terrifying!  I still have not completely decided what type of nursing I want to do once I earn my degree.  I have always liked the possibility of med-surg nursing, travel nursing, and after completing an internship this summer–even ER nursing.  One path that I have also considered is becoming  a Certified Diabetes Educator.  With having diabetes myself, I would have a much better understanding of what the patients are going through.

Most of my time is spent at school and studying.  But in my free time, I work as a nursing assistant and enjoy playing card/board games, binge watching my favorite shows (Days of our Lives), and spending time with my friends and family.
